Ex-County Treasurer Dies At 83
George Connor Hodges Jr., 83, former Greenwood County treasurer, died yesterday at 5:30 p.m. at his home, 128 Blake St.
He was treasurer of Greenwood County for some 10 years before his retirement in 1960.  He was a banker before he became county treasurer.
His death followed several years of declining health and a short illness.  His wife, Mrs. Elise Smith Hodges, died in 1964.
Mr. Hodges was born in Greenwood, a son of the late George C. and Corinne Waldrop Hodges.  He was a member of Main Street Methodist Church and former treasurer of Hodges Bible Class.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Eleanor) Tribble of Asheville, N.C., and Mrs. Frank (Corinne) McLeod of Miami, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from Blyth Funeral Home tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. with Dr. John M Younginer and Dr. F.C. Beach officiating.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kim Hartzog, Neel Crymes, Henderson Barnette, Calhoun Mays Jr., G.B. Harvley, Brooks Stuart, Casper Holroyd, and Earl Cobb.
Honorary escort will be composed of the Hodges Bible Class of Main Street Methodist Church, Gray Moore, W.D. Tinsley, W.H. Nicholson Sr., and P.P. Penn.
