Marion Sumter Lewis

Marion Sumter Lewis, 84, retired banker of Chester, died Saturday night in a Darlington clinic after an illness of several weeks.
Mr. Lewis was born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Newton S. and Emily Snow Lewis and spent all his career in banking in South Carolina.
He was an elder of Purity Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years,
Survivors include one son, William W. Lewis of Decatur, Ga., two daughters, Mrs. D.L. Williamson of Anapolis, Brazil, and Mrs. John T. Langston, Jr. of Darlington; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday from Purity Presbyterian Church in Chester by Dr. Raleigh Engle, pastor.  Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.
Active pallbearers were in Dr. J. N. Gaston, Edgar Alexander, R.B. Lowery, J. Boyce Bankhead, James I. Hardin and W.L. Craig.  Honorary pallbearers were the Elders of Purity Presbyterian church.
