William Irwin Witherspoon

Final Tribute is Paid to York Man
YORK, July 8. - Funeral services for William Irwin Witherspoon of York were held at the Presbyterian church at 11 o'clock Thursday interment following in the family plot in the city cemetery, where he was laid to rest beside his distinguished father, Juedge Isaac Donnom Witherspoon, and his beloved mother, Margaret Wright Witherspoon.
A large number of sorrowing friends from York and other points in the two Carolinas gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to this splendid citizen, who died in Charlotte early Wednesday from complications following an operation.  The floral tributes were unusually numerous and beautiful.
The services, which were in charge of the Rev. W.W. Harrison pastor of the church, were very simple, consisting of the singing of three familiar hymns, prayer, and the reading of passages from the Bible.  Mr. Harrison was assisted by other York ministers.  At the grave the choir sang one hymn, after which came the benediction.  Mr. Witherspoon was a ruling elder in the Presbyterian church and the pallbearers were members of the session and deaconate and near neighbors.
